Wamena was a point of departure for many expeditions. The Dani villages are visited by virtually every tourist who sets out in West Papua. Some villages even show their original customs and hold mock wars. Another thing that brought fame to the Dani tribe is the several hundred-year-old “smoked” mummies of famous tribesmen.
Over 1,200 fish species – a world achievement! 284 on one azygos dive at Kofiau Island, the criterion figure for an excellent dive site of 200 fish species surpassed on 51% of Raja Ampat dives (another world record), 600 coral species, 699 invertebrate species – again another world high. The term “Frontier Diving” seems to have been invented for raja ampat in west papua.
The Asmat tribe is known for its very distinctive traditional wood carvings. Some ornaments/motifs that are often used and become the main theme in the process of carving statues carried out by the Asmat tribe take the theme of the ancestors of their tribe, which are usually called mbis.
Korowai always moves from one place to another in order to be close to the foods and hunted animals provides by nature. Traditional wear of Korowai is very simple, men wear a piece of leave or a small penis gourd to cover their penis and women wear the skirt made of woven sago leafs.
The Kombai people live in clans, each clan having its own territory in the Papuan forest. Certain areas of the forest are not inhabited, as they are believed to be sacred lands meant for the spirits. Kombai Tribe wear the same cloth as Koroai but what is different is that men wear hornbill head instead of the gourd during the feast time.
Cendrawasih Park is located in Kwasioren in Nabire, Papua. The largest fish species in the sea, throughout the year in its fishing platform zone. Beside hand lining and bird you can also find a bunch of Whale shark in Cendrawasih Bay. Whale shark is very interesting, it can be said is the largest fish in the world. Its length can reach 14 meters and weigh 15 tons.
Yalis were discovered no sooner than in 1976. They make their homes in the highlands; this is what inhabitants of isolated and uninhabited areas of Papua. Inland, and especially areas near to the mountains, have been least accessible territories where thus discovered most recently.
Papua, Indonesia, is renowned for its rich and diverse wildlife, particularly its unique birdlife and mammals. Notable birds include various species of birds-of-paradise, cassowaries and parrots. Mammals include cuscus, tree kangaroos, various possums and rodents.
The city is the capital city of the easternmost province of Indonesia, and is directly adjacent to neighboring Papua New Guinea, which is located in the bay of Jayapura. So far, Jayapura has rarely heard of this city. But it turns out that this city also has many tourist areas with natural, beach, Lake Sentani, historical, religious and culinary nuances.
Mamberamo is a name a river in the province of Papua formerly Irian Jaya over west Papua. It is the largest river in Papua province Indonesia by volume of discharge and also the widest. It is an almost unexplored area inhabited by many wild and protected animals and flora probably has a very high biodiversity including hidden tribes.
Lorentz Park contains many undisturbed and unexplored areas, and is certain to contain many species of plants and animals as yet unknown to Western science. Local communities’ ethnobotanical and ethnozoological knowledge of the Lorentz biota is also very poorly documented.
Tourism office as Head of Papua Province, promoted to build a monument in the area to commemorate the deaths of Japanese soldiers, and also to provide a place of worship for Japanese people who want to make pilgrimages and prayers to the commemoration of the families of those killed. Including Region of Sarmi, Biak, Sorong, Manokwari, Wakde & Jayapura.
Posted on PastlivescollectiveVerified Mind-blowing experience! Athan and Jefalgi Papua Tours organized my group to Papua. It was a great tour : our guide & 10 porters was great. For all planning a trip to Papua I would like to give one piece of advice: at least one night at the village with local people is a MUST! Thanks Athan for all you had done. Hopefully I will be able to come to Papua someday with you again.Posted on Joachim BVerified Wonderful Jayapura city tour At our call to Jayapura we took Jefalgi tours for a 5 hours city tour and were glad we did so. Athan arranged a great itinerary for our short time in port. It included a boatride on the beautiful lake Sentani and visit of Asei island, a Mangrove walk, a visit of Jayapuras colorful market and a short ride uphill to an amazing viewpoint. Our friendly tourguide spoke very good English and gave us a lot of interesting information. Thank you so much. We had a wonderful time in Jayapura.Posted on brb55Verified Athan, the beautiful encounter of our Indonesian journey l The good reviews and the good feeling preceding the trip were not misleading. Back a week ago and still under the spell of the few days spent in Jayapura Bay and the Baliem Valley, accompanied by Athan.A serious, accommodating, educational and patient guide, who knows the region well and builds confidence. But beyond all that, a man with unfailing good humor peppered with humor, quiet confidence, caring, respectful of the people he works with, with whom we feel good.Thank you Athan for these shared moments which leave beautiful memories in the head and heart.Posted on Marie-Pierre RVerified Surprising encounters in Papua ATAN from Jefalgi Papua Tours accompanied us for 4 days in Papua. Helpful, attentive, he does everything to satisfy his customers. He also helped us manage our flights given the delays or cancellations of domestic lines. Thanks to his knowledge, we had extraordinary experiences in Papuan villages. Very serious while having humor, we can only recommend it.Posted on hessudVerified Trip to Koroway district Me and my friend had an 8-day trip to Koroway at the end of November and I have to give big thanks to Jefalgi and Athan for arrangements and even bigger thanks to our guide and cook Usman who took care of everything by himself during the trip and was really helpful for fulfilling our wishes and explained a lot about local tribes and history. 🙏🙏We flied first from Jayapura to Dekai, stayed over night there in a hotel (quite decent place with air con, taken into account that we were in the middle of Papua) and continued to Mabul next morning by harbour chief’s speed boat. In Mabul we spent one night in head porter’s home and started our jungle journey next morning along with 6 Korowayan porters (4 women, 2 of them carrying also their babies, and 2 men). We were lucky that it hadn’t rained a lot lately (it actually didn’t rain at all during day time during our trip) so trekking in the jungle was rather easy although it was still muddy (rubber boots were a must!). We met original Koroway people as expected and spent a few nights on their small villages (2 different places). We were also allowed to visit their three houses and follow their daily activities like sago processing and they showed us how to make a trap for wild boars etc. People were very friendly throughout the trip and everything went ok without problems. Really extraordinary experience, I have to say! 👊🏻Especially I’d like to thank Jefalgi and Usman for the one extra day of guiding in Jayapura as our flight to Sorong (with Sriwijaya Air, avoid if possible, they cancel flights often!!) was cancelled without any notice or email. 🙏🙏🙏Few tips/things to take into account if going there:- Jungle is very hostile environment for white people. It’s really hot, humid and full of blood sucking horseflies and mosquitos. Wear long trousers and long sleeve shirt and cover your neck with scarf etc. at least while trekking.- Use efficient (factor 50) sun screen especially during the boat trip. The sun is really violent on equator and you can’t see or feel the burning skin until it’s too late. I know. 🤨- Drinking water is taken from the river during the trek and it needs to be boiled. It means that: • the amount of water is limited, so don’t waste it • it’s hot if it hasn’t cooled down over the night (it’s practical to pour extra tea/coffee water to a hot resistant water bottle to cool down for the next day) • it tastes slightly bad, so you just need to accept it 😳- Take antibacteria powder with you. Even small wounds/blisters don’t heal easily there and powder works best as it keeps the wound dry.- Bring head lamp. You’ll need it!Posted on Fabio_genovaVerified serious and organized Trekking in Papua is not easy, especially for 2 people like me and my wife who are no longer very young, but Athan and his staff have managed to get things going the right way. In the end it was 6 wonderful days, lived fully, full of people and places I will never forget. And in the end it is precisely for this reason that one travels, to be part of this world. Thanks to Jefalgi Papua tour. Posted on AustrianinAsiaVerified An exciting week We did the 7d/6n tour with Ridwan from Jefalgi Tours which was a combination of trekking and staying with locals on one side and the Baliem Festival on the other. The first three days were challenging, interesting, amazing. We did quite a bit of hiking (at times tough since rain made the paths slippery), we got to know the locals better, we stayed overnight in huts of Papuans, enjoyed local food and appreciated fantastic views over the Baliem ValleyThe Baliem festival was the higlight of the second half of the week. To be part of a festival which is actually meant for locals was a privilge. It was simply amazing to see their rituals, some historical plays and their traditions. Our group consisted of only 3 tourists (a real boutique travel group) and Ridwan was a knowledgable and very considerate guide who was basically here for us 24/7Such a tour is not cheap but a life-experience and we can highly recommend Jefalgi and Ridwan if you consider booking a tour in West PapuaPosted on JessicaVerified Excellent trekking trough the Baliem Valley! About 3 weeks ago (june 2019) we did the 5 day trekking tour C through the Baliem valley with Jefalgi Papua Tours and we can definetely recommend it!Ridwan organised everything very well. Contact via multiple emails was clear and quick. Ridwan also booked our flights upfront. We met Ridwan in Jayapura and he took care of all further arrangements for us. Before the booking we compared some companies but price/qualitywise Jefalgi was the best.In Wamena we met our guide Herriman with the crew (John, Tonias and Rico). They were all very very helpfull and friendly. Herriman made sure all our needs were fulfilled and he did so much more. He is very warm-hearted and has a lot of knowledge on the area. The guys helped us on difficult or slippery path and carried the sleeping bags, cooking stuff, foods etc (heavy!)We walked through the valley and saw beautiful surroundings. We visited some villages and met locals. The tour was real, no touristic show, which we appreciated. The tour was technically a little difficult (cliffs and slippery paths after rains). So I would recommend proper walking shoes. We wore our runnings shoes and that was not very ideal (slippery). Fysically the difficulty of tour C was fine for us.The homestays/hotels were basic but sufficient and nice. We had a proper matress most of the nights. Our meals were varried and superfresh. We had many choises of foods (we expected more basic meals actually). We are very gratefull for this experience and want to thank Ridwan, Herriman, John, Tonias and Rico for all they did for us!!Posted on Fabio_genovaVerified Non per tutti Fare trekking in Papua non è per tutti , ma se lo sporco,la fatica , il pericolo non vi spaventano allora affidatevi pure ad Athan della Jefalgi papua tour e godetevi questa avventura.
